Here’s a fun fact: Bed sizes in Australia are much LARGER than those in Europe!
When it comes to comparing bed sizes between the two continents, there are some key differences. First, mattress sizes in the UK are expressed in the imperial system (inches) whilst in Australia we use the metric system of measuring (metres). Second, the most popular mattress size in Australia is a Queen size mattress (which is actually the King size in the UK). And third, Aussie beds are more similar in size to those in New Zealand, ha!
It does make sense though, as the UK are known for having SMALL bedrooms, so their bed sizes are built to accommodate!
So, if you have recently relocated and are looking to buy a new bed in Australia, there's a good chance you'll be buying one bigger than you are used to! AND, don’t forget to buy new linen, as your old linen will likely not fit….
We hope this chart helps you with your new bedroom purchase!
I get it, looking for a new bed is way too overwhelming! It's not just about getting the right dimensions; but also about finding the right style and aesthetic that fits your room. So, what other important details might you want to consider?
The available floor space (consider the height and width of your room too)
Window and door placement and adjacenies
Bed frame construction
What type of mattress do you or your partner prefer? (foam, hybrid, memory, cooling mattress, traditional innerspring, so much to choose from!)
Firm vs Soft (It’s very important to get the right support for your spine)
Sleeping habits and position
And so much more!
Remember, your bed is the only furniture in your house that you tend to spend the longest time lying on, so investing in a top-quality mattress is also giving importance to your overall health.
