Perth - Public Transport
Getting around Perth by public transport is totally doable, depending {of course!} on where you want to head. It is good value, clean, safe and connects with other modes of transport well, such as Park n Ride options at many train stations.
Transperth manages all public transport modes, and you will require a SmartRider card in order to travel cashless. The card costs $10 to buy and you add $10 of starting credit. Tag on and off for each ride. Create an account on the Transperth website and register your card, to set up automatic top up payments.
The Perth train-line has an extensive network, supported by the metro bus system. A ferry service is available between South Perth and Elizabeth Quay.
Due to the easy year-round weather, bike riding as the commute to work is very popular, with bike paths common in Perth.
Stating the obvious though, Perth is no London or New York, and our public transport options have their limitations. Most families in Perth would own at least one car, particularly if you have children.
What is limited in Perth is easy access to our domestic and international airports {sorry}. These are not well supported by our public transport system! Uber is your best bet if you need to be dropped to Perth airports.
